Next month, Samsung will release three new smartwatches. This includes the Galaxy Watch 8, Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, and the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2025. All three models will sport the new squircle design that Samsung debuted on the Galaxy Watch Ultra last year, including the base model.
These models were already found during an APK teardown last month, so there’s no surprises here. Not to mention, the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic appeared on eBay earlier this week, and it looked exactly like the render.
Digging into the renders deeper here, we can see that the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2025 look pretty similar. Of course, the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic does have a thicker bezel, as well as notches for rotating the bezel. This leads us to believe that the fan-favorite feature will remain on the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic this year. It also gains the Quick button that debuted on the Galaxy Watch Ultra last year.
The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic CADs were released by OnLeaks last month, and pretty much match the render we have here.
Galaxy Watch 8 gets the new Squircle design
The biggest change for the Galaxy Watch 8 this year is going to be the new squircle design. It’s actually far less noticeable on the base model versus the Classic and Ultra models here.
We do expect that the Galaxy Watch 8 will still come in two sizes, as the previous models have. For reference, the Galaxy Watch 7 was available in 40mm and 44mm sizes.
When Samsung debuted this design change last year on the Galaxy Watch Ultra, it was about durability. Using a “cushion” design, making it better for hikers and those that do a lot of stuff outdoors. The Galaxy Watch 8 isn’t really meant to be a rugged smartwatch, so it’ll be interesting to see how Samsung spins this.
Finally, the Galaxy Watch Ultra. It has very few design changes from the current model that Samsung debuted last July. The only changes we’re seeing here are colors. The bezel on this particular colorway is blue, with a blue Marine strap, which was only available in Orange or Dark Gray last year. This is likely Samsung’s “hero” color for the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2025. This year, Samsung is really pushing towards blue being their hero color across all of their devices, starting with the Galaxy S25 series earlier this year.
When is the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 release date?
Samsung will likely hold an Unpacked event next month, where these three smartwatches will debut. Here are the dates for the most recent Summer Unpacked events.
Device | Launch Event Date |
---|---|
Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 Series | July 10, 2024 |
Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Series | August 11, 2023 |
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Series | August 10, 2022 |
Last year, Samsung moved up the launch by almost a month, and we expect Samsung to stick to that same sort of time frame this year. It’s unusual for Samsung to launch later than they did the year before, though the Galaxy S25 was a week later than the Galaxy S24 launch was.
Typically, Samsung will release devices about 10 days to two weeks after the launch event. Typically, events are on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, with pre-orders opening that same day. Devices sometimes ship early, but the official release date is generally the following Thursday or Friday. This isn’t always the same day like the iPhone launch is, but generally within 14 days of the announcement.
