Samsung has yet to announce the Galaxy Watch 8 series, but it has dropped new health features for One UI 8 Watch today. The newly announced health features aim to improve sleep, nutrition, heart health, and fitness. The list includes Bedtime Guidance, Vascular Load, Running Coach, and Antioxidant Index.
One UI 8’s new health features for Galaxy Watch devices
Let’s start with Bedtime Guidance first. As the name suggests, this Galaxy Watch health feature suggests an optimal bedtime for you. The feature analyzes your past three days’ sleep patterns and your lifestyle to send reminders to help you stick with a healthier bedtime routine.
The optimal bedtime recommended to you is also based on the evaluation of your need for sleep pressure and circadian rhythm. If you’ve been struggling to keep up with a healthy bedtime routine, this Galaxy Watch feature will be handy for you. This feature also complements the Sleep Apnea detection feature, which is now available across 70 countries.
The next health feature announced for the upcoming Galaxy Watch is Vascular Load. This feature measures the amount of stress on your vascular system while you are sleeping. Although vascular load naturally dips during sleep for obvious reasons, Samsung says that excessive fluctuations can negatively impact your cardiovascular health. This feature analyzes your sleep patterns, exercise, and stress levels to provide you with detailed insight. Overall, it’s a lifesaver for anyone who already has some kind of heart condition.
Next up, you have “Running Coach.” This Galaxy Watch health feature helps you avoid any major injuries while running. You’ll get optimized intensity and injury-preventing training suggestions. Once you wear your Galaxy Watch, you’ll need to run for at least 12 minutes before the feature analyzes your performance and running level. Next, the Galaxy Watch will provide you with a running level ranging from 1 to 10. Based on your running level, you’ll also get a detailed plan to help you complete a 5K, 10K, half marathon, or full marathon. Overall, it’s a handy feature for any beginner who doesn’t run all the time.
Antioxidant Index can motivate you to choose healthy food habits
Finally, you have the Antioxidant Index feature. Samsung says this feature will help you age in a healthy manner. Your Galaxy Watch measures carotenoids in five seconds using the BioActive sensor. For the uninitiated, carotenoids are antioxidants found in green and orange vegetables and fruit.
For example, you’ll see an increased Antioxidant Index after having carrot juice or fruits rich in carotenoids. It eventually acts as a motivator to choose a healthy eating and drinking habit.
For now, the company hasn’t announced which exact Galaxy Watch model will feature these health features. However, these will likely feature in the next-gen wrist-worn wearables powered by One UI 8 Watch. Some features, like Vascular Load and Antioxidant feature, might also work on the existing Galaxy Watch Ultra. Moreover, the Running Coach might also work on last year’s Galaxy Watch 7 series as well.
