Royal Enfield Unveils Custom Super Meteor 650 in Australia

Royal Enfield has unveiled a custom-built motorcycle based on its Super Meteor 650 model in Australia. Named Project Delta, the motorcycle was developed in collaboration with Australian custom builder Purpose Built Moto.

The motorcycle features extensive modifications to mimic designs from the 1940s-50s era, drawing inspiration from Royal Enfield’s historic models including the Super Meteor 700 and the Flying Flea from World War II.

Project Delta includes a reworked frame resembling vintage hardtail styling while incorporating modern engineering elements. The build features a hand-fabricated Girder Fork, custom spoked wheels, and a slim fuel tank modeled after the 1952 Super Meteor 700.

Tom Gilroy, Founder of Purpose Built Moto, said the project represents both his design approach developed over eight years and a new direction for his company. “We’ve delivered a vision that blends the modern power plant of the Royal Enfield 650 twin with inspiration drawn from the original Super Meteor 700 and antique models like the Flying Flea of the 1940s,” Gilroy stated.

Anuj Dua, Head of International Business for Royal Enfield’s Asia-Pacific region, highlighted Australia’s contribution to motorcycle customization. “Australia has given us an amazing community of customizers who constantly challenge and inspire us,” Dua said.

Royal Enfield, established in 1901, is one of the oldest motorcycle brands in continuous production. The company has positioned itself as a leader in the mid-size motorcycle segment (250cc-750cc) globally. The Super Meteor 650, introduced in 2022, is part of Royal Enfield’s 650 Twin platform that helped the brand expand its international presence.

Custom motorcycle building has grown significantly in Australia over the past decade, with several builders gaining international recognition for their craftsmanship and innovative designs. Purpose Built Moto, based in Queensland, has established itself as a premier custom motorcycle workshop specializing in bespoke builds and aftermarket parts.

Project Delta will likely serve as a showcase piece rather than a production model, following the tradition of manufacturer-commissioned custom builds that demonstrate design possibilities while attracting enthusiast attention.
