When an actor signs a new film, getting a script is usually a given. But with Anurag Basu, things are always a little offbeat. For actor Rohan Gurbaxani, even the casting process for Metro… In Dino was anything but typical. He recalls Basu FaceTiming him to offer the role. “I was just over the moon because he asked me if I was interested in working with him. Like any actor would jump to say yes, I said yes!” Gurbaxani smiles.

True to Basu’s style, he gave the actor a brief storyline and the arc of his character, offering just enough to get a feel of the film. “This is how he works, very organic and personal. It’s just him narrating the story,” shares Gurbaxani, calling it a “unique experience”. “Dada also says, ‘Trust me, I know my process is a little different. It’s a little nerve-wracking, but we will make something great.’”

What made Metro… In Dino even more special for the actor was sharing screen space with Pankaj Tripathi and Konkona Sensharma. Recalling his first day on set, Gurbaxani says he fed of their generosity as co-stars. “When I was getting ready in the vanity, that’s when this freshly pressed sheet of paper came with dialogues on it. Pankaj ji [invited me to his] vanity van to rehearse. I went from just being in Bombay to now acting in front of Mr Mirzapur himself. Konkona also finds Dada’s process nerve-wracking, which was very comforting. They both [gave me a lot] to bounce off when acting.”
