The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Indranil Bhattacharyya as Executive Director (ED), effective March 19, 2025, the banking regulator said in a statement.
In his new role as ED, Bhattacharyya will look after the Department of Economic and Policy Research.
Prior to this, Bhattacharyya served as an adviser in RBI’s Monetary Policy Department.
Over nearly three decades, Bhattacharyya has worked in the Monetary Policy Department, the Department of Economic and Policy Research, and the International Department of the Reserve Bank on monetary policy, fiscal policy, banking, and international economic relations.
He also served as an economic expert in the Technical Office of the Governor at Qatar Central Bank, Doha, Qatar, for five years (2009-14).
Bhattacharyya has a Postgraduate degree in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. His research interests are primarily in monetary theory and policy, financial markets, market microstructure and fiscal policy.
