The Golden Bachelor is returning for an all-new season, featuring a fresh face ready to find love and begin a new journey. According to USA Today, ABC shared their excitement in a press release, stating: “As the Golden Bachelor, he’s eager to meet someone who shares this vision and finally find that perfect teammate he’s been waiting for in his golden years.”
As Bachelor Nation gears up for the next chapter of the golden-age-inspired series, here’s what we know about the release date, the cast, and the new lead of Season 2.
The Golden Bachelor Season 2 Release Date
While a premiere date hasn’t been officially announced, ABC is expected to release more details as the season approaches.
Who Is the Next Golden Bachelor?
Mel Owens is stepping into the role for Season 2. According to ABC, “After several years as a devoted dad, Owens is ready to rediscover a love rooted in the simple joys of companionship – sharing life’s everyday moments, making plans for the future, and growing stronger together as a couple.”
Though Bachelor Nation may be unfamiliar with him, sports fans will recognize Owens as a former NFL linebacker who played for the Los Angeles Rams. He now works as a lawyer.
Where Is Gerry Turner Now?
Gerry Turner, the original Golden Bachelor, revealed in December 2024 that he had been diagnosed with Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia, a rare form of cancer. In an April 2025 podcast episode of “Bachelor Happy Hour,” he shared a health update, saying, “Until I have any symptoms, there’s no treatment. So I go frequently for blood tests.” He added that he’s now on a six-month check-up schedule.
Despite the diagnosis, Gerry remains optimistic. “I feel optimistic because the doctor has said, ‘Well, when you turn 75, we’re going to have to go three-month increments,’” he explained. “So it’s telling me that at least he expects me to live another couple of years to get to that. But the bottom line is I feel really good.”
He also reflected on his perspective since receiving the diagnosis, “it’s a privilege to live like you’re dying.”
