While promoting his upcoming film Jaat, Randeep Hooda was asked about his rapport with Kangana Ranaut. He described it as cordial and communicative, noting that despite working together on multiple projects, they have never encountered any personal differences. However, tensions surfaced following a 2019 tweet from Hooda, in which he praised Alia Bhatt’s portrayal in Gully Boy — a performance Ranaut had publicly criticized as “mediocre.”
In the tweet, Hooda had indirectly slammed Ranaut and commended Bhatt for not letting “the opinions of very occasional actors and chronic victims” affect her work. Recently addressing the post, Hooda confirmed it was indeed directed at Ranaut. He explained that, having collaborated closely with Bhatt on Highway, he felt compelled to defend her when he believed the criticism was needlessly toxic. “I’ve never had any quarrels with Kangana, but I did feel she was unnecessarily targeting Alia. Because of Highway, I’ve always felt a strong connection with her. I’m not sure if she feels the same, but I sense that same bond with her and with her character, Veera,” said Hooda.

“Kangana is a very fine actor—such comments don’t suit her,” Hooda added. He explained that he dislikes it when people undermine others to elevate themselves. It is kind of a mindset he does not subscribe to. Though he, too, has faced unfairness in the industry, he believes in maintaining dignity and restraint. The tweet, he said, was simply his way of drawing a line when he felt the discourse had gone too far.
