Ramandeep Singh backs himself to be the finisher for KKR this season

While he has only got the opportunity to bat in three out of the six matches he has played for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League 2025 season, Ramandeep Singh has been awaiting an impactful knock for his side in IPL. Ramandeep, who had been given a role of finisher by then coach Gautam Gambir and played in 13 matches in Knight Rider’s title-winning campaign last year, had scored 125 runs off 62 balls at a strike rate of more than 200 in those matches and the 28-year-old Punjab power hitter believes that he backs himself to be the finisher for the side this season as well competing against other finishers like Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma in IPL.

“KKR have given me the role to come in at 5,6 or 7 and do what the situation demands and to make the team win. We learn from every situation and it helps us to analyse our game too. My target is to make myself as a match winner for the team and I try to be fearless in my approach right from the first ball of my innings whether the ball is in my area or not. After the 15th over, whatever the situation is, I back myself. And the same goes for every one of us. If I talk about myself, I never thought I would make my Indian debut after last year’s IPL but then my task is to work towards being my best and not to think about results. Rest is in God’s hands,” shared Ramandeep, while addressing the media on the eve of the side’s match against Punjab Kings at Mullanpur.

While the Ajinkya Rahane-led side had lost two of their first three matches this season, the side has won two out of their last three matches with the team winning against Chennai Super Kings by eight wickets in their last match at Chepauk. KKR are placed in the fifth spot with three wins and as many losses each. Last year, the side had won the title under Shreyas Iyer with Gautam Gambhir being the coach and Singh talked about playing under both Iyer and Rahane and playing against Iyer on Tuesday. “We do miss an individual like Gautam Gambir and the things he brought in the team. But now we have a coach like DJ Bravo, who brings the same champion mindset in the team. And if we talk about Shreya and Ajinkya, both have been wonderful captains. While Ajinkya brings a lot of calmness in the dug out and every youngster idolizes him, he has led with his form too this season. And Shreyas, we all know how confident he is and gets the plan executed from the team. Both are different but bring a lot on the table for each team,” said Singh.

The team has a mixed bag of results this season and will be eying their fourth win in this year’s campaign. With only one batsman in the form of Rahane in the top 20 leading run scorers this season so far and none in the top 10 wicket takers this season, Singh believes the team in improving each match. “I believe that it’s the bowling which helps the team win a championship. And we know it clearly. The team is improving match by match. The likes of Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine are dangerous on any pitch and can turn the match on their day,” said Ramandeep.
