Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of running Bihar by “remote control”, while using the face of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. At a rally in Muzaffarpur, Gandhi said that the BJP has “nothing to do with social justice”.

The leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha claimed that the voices of the most backward communities are not being heard in the state.

The Supreme Court has said it will consider issuing nationwide guidelines to set timelines for trial courts to frame criminal charges, in order to prevent delays in proceedings. Such delays, the bench observed, are among the primary causes for stagnation in criminal proceedings.

The chargesheet in the case was filed in September 2024.

While hearing his appeal, the Supreme Court noted that the trial court had yet to frame charges in the case despite the chargesheet being filed over a year ago. Read more.

The Aam Aadmi Party questioned the Bharatiya Janata Party government in Delhi on the lack of rain after cloud seeding experiments a day earlier to tackle air pollution. It accused the Delhi government of “wasting taxpayers’ money” and perpetrating a scam in the name of the experiment.

Cloud seeding is the process of combining chemical agents, including silver iodide, dry ice and common table salt, to condense clouds and increase the chances of rainfall.

As the air quality in Delhi continues to be “poor”, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Friday that cloud seeding “is a necessity for Delhi”. On Tuesday, two cloud-seeding trials were held over northwest Delhi’s Burari, Mayur Vihar and Karol Bagh at 12.13 pm and 3.45 pm.

However, no rain fell in these areas.

Experts have repeatedly pointed out that the experiment is not a “very practical” way to tackle air pollution as it is expensive, can only cover a limited area and needs very specific meteorological conditions. They have also said that the respite from pollution through artificial rains is temporary. Read more.

Overnight Israeli airstrikes across Gaza killed at least 104 Palestinians, including 46 children, the territory’s Hamas-run health ministry said. Over 250 persons were also injured in the strikes.

The strikes took place despite a United States-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas. Both sides have accused each other of violating the truce.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said that after security consultations, he had ordered the military to carry out “forceful strikes” in Gaza. The prime minister’s office did not specify a reason for the strikes.

However, the Israeli military said that it had struck “dozens of Hamas terror targets” throughout Gaza in response to the Palestinian militant group’s “blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement”. Read more.
