Qualcomm could launch the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 on April 2nd

Qualcomm has scheduled a product launch event in China on April 2nd. There’s no official word regarding the name of the chip Qualcomm will unveil at the event. However, the reports indicate that the company could launch the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 or Snapdragon 8s Elite at the event later this week. The new chip will be the successor to last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor.

Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 rumored specs

Ahead of the official launch, a handful of details regarding the upcoming Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 processor have already leaked online. A recent report suggested that Qualcomm’s new high-end chip for more affordable flagships will have an AnTuTu score of more than 2 million. Qualcomm will manufacture the SoC utilizing TSMC’s 4nm fabrication technology. Sources claim that the processor will flaunt the Adreno 825 GPU. It could be a trimmed-down variant of the Adreno 830 that the Snapdragon 8 Elite features.

As per the reports, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 with the model number SM8735 will use a 1+3+2+2 core architecture instead of custom 2+6 Oryon cores in the Snapdragon 8 Elite. The new chip will have one 3.21GHz Cortex-X4 Prime core, three 3.01GHz Cortex-A720 cores, and two Cortex-A720 performance cores with a clock speed of 2.8GHz. There will also be two 2.02GHz Cortex-A720 efficiency cores.

Furthermore, the leaks so far indicate that the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 will have 6MB of system-level cache (SLC) and 8MB of L3 cache. These slight upgrades should improve the multitasking capabilities of the new chip.

First Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 phones could launch in mid-April

Qualcomm will position its new Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 or 8s Elite between the Snapdragon 8 Elite and the Snapdragon 7 series chips. It will compete against MediaTek’s upcoming Dimensity 9400e processor. The first phones to utilize the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset could launch as early as mid-April.

If rumors are true, the iQOO Z10 Turbo Pro will be the first phone to come powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 processor. Furthermore, the rumors suggest that the new chip will also power the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro, Xiaomi Civi 5 Pro, and OPPO K13 Pro smartphones. The official launch is just around the corner, so watch this space for regular updates.
