The Pune Rural police has launched a ‘WhatsApp Vigilance System’, an automated chatbot that allows residents to report any illegal activities happening around them without having to visit a police station. “We have launched an automated WhatsApp chatbot in Pune. Under this, a phone number (9922892100) has been made available to the residents of Pune district. On this phone number on Whatsapp, you can report any illegal activities that you see,” said SP Panjak Deshmukh.
The chatbot will provide a list and will ask you what kind of illegal activity is taking place around you. A series of questions follows after this, such as the location of the illegal activity, photo of the illegal activity, etc. “Residents should not worry as the name and number of the person filing the complaint through this system will remain anonymous,” he said, adding, “the complaint registered will be visible at all police stations and officers as well”.
