PM Narendra Modi RSS Headquarters Nagpur Visit Live Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to the Smruti Mandir which holds the memorials dedicated to RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, and second sarsanghchalak (chief) M S Golwalkar, wrote a message in Hindi in the visitors’ book. “The memorial of the two strong pillars of RSS is an inspiration to lakhs of swayamsevaks who have dedicated themselves to the service of the nation,” news agency PTI quoted the message as saying. The Prime Minister further said that he was “overwhelmed” during the visit to the memorials. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Nagpur today for Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) Pratipada programme to mark the beginning of the Hindu New Year.
PM Modi’s visit to the RSS headquarters is a first of its kind, with no serving Prime Minister having done so previously. Maharashtra BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule said the PM will lay the foundation stone of the Madhav Netralaya Premium Centre building. Modi also visited Deekshabhoomi, where Dr B R Ambedkar had embraced Buddhism in 1956. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari were also present during the visit. The PM will later visit the Solar Defence and Aerospace Ltd’s ammunition facility to inaugurate the newly built airstrip for UAVs and the live munition and warhead testing facility.
The significance of PM’s visit to RSS HQ: Modi had last visited the RSS headquarters in 2013, when he was serving as the chief minister of Gujarat, for a meeting. This is his first as the Prime Minister. The trip gains significance given the tensions witnessed between BJP and Sangh in the days leading up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In an interview with The Indian Express, BJP chief J P Nadda had said that the party no longer required hand-holding by the RSS adding to them. Both the Sangh and the BJP have, since then, tried to mend relations. While speaking at the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan in February, PM Modi had praised the RSS, saying that the organisation had inspired “lakhs like me” to “live for our country”.
