President Droupadi Murmu will visit Vatican City to attend the funeral of Pope Francis, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Thursday.
Francis, the head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State died on April 21 at the age of 88.
In a brief statement, the MEA confirmed, “The Hon’ble President of India will travel to Vatican City to represent the country at the State Funeral of HH Pope Francis.”
Many heads of state and royals have confirmed their attendance, including US President Donald Trump, UK Prince William, French President Emmanuel Macron, Spain’s King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, and Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
