Pixel 9a’s ‘Battery Health Assistance’ Coming to More Phones, With More Control

We all want our smartphones to last as long as possible, especially their batteries. Well, we have good news for Google Pixel owners. The clever “Battery health assistance” feature is getting closer to expanding to more Pixel phones. A report has revealed additional details about the upcoming new setting.

What is the “Battery Health Assistance” setting?

If you’re not aware, Google Pixel’s Battery Health Assistance is designed to help your phone’s battery stay in top shape for longer. This isn’t just a simple tweak; it’s a smart system working behind the scenes. Basically, the feature intelligently manages the charging process of your battery. How does it do this? It adjusts the maximum voltage of your phone’s cell in stages as it ages.

This process starts after about 200 charging cycles and continues up to 1000 cycles. The smart tweaks help stabilize performance and reduce the natural deterioration of batteries over time. Think of it as a personalized care plan for your phone’s power source. The feature will also fine-tune your phone’s charging speed based on the battery’s current capacity. This should help to optimize every power-up.

Google’s Battery Health will have more control options on older Pixel phones

Currently, this helpful feature is exclusive to the Google Pixel 9a. It comes enabled by default, without an option to turn it off. It’s seamlessly integrated to provide immediate benefits to new users of that specific model.

However, Google is still working on expanding “Battery health assistance” to older Pixel devices. This means more phones will soon benefit from this intelligent battery management. The best part is that, unlike the Pixel 9a, the leaked details suggest that older Pixel devices will have the option to disable the feature (spotted by 9to5Google). This gives users more control over their phone’s settings, which is always a welcome addition.

This setting isn’t live in the latest Android 16 beta just yet. However, let’s hope it doesn’t take long for Google to ship it to all eligible devices. In today’s industry with increasing prices, the longevity of a device is an increasingly important factor.
