Former Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Women, Lakshmi M Puri, on Friday said she filed a complaint with the Delhi Police’s Cyber Crime Department after people in her contact list started receiving calls from her number asking for money.
Puri, who is also Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri’s wife, said it all started after she received a call on Thursday. “I received a call from a number saved on my device yesterday evening. Since the person was known to me and she requested an OTP, which she said she had mistakenly sent to my number, I gave it to her,” she wrote in a post on X.
Once she shared the OTP, Puri alleged, her WhatsApp stopped working. “My WhatsApp stopped working, and some people in my contacts started receiving calls from my number asking for money. This is to caution all my friends and acquaintances who have my number saved on their phones not to respond to any such calls or demands for money,” she wrote.
