Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has asked concerned parties to ensure that cinema hall management is geared for better audience service. He wants the streamlining of all processes. “Cinema hall management in Andhra Pradesh should be carried out in a systematic manner. The concerned government departments must regularly monitor this process. Any proposals regarding ticket price hikes should be submitted to the government only through the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce, and not by producers or others in their individual capacities,” his office today stated.
Even for Hari Hara Veera Mallu, the concerned producer should approach the government for a ticket price hike only through the TFCC.
“The costs of snacks like popcorn, soft drinks, and even bottled water in cinemas have become exorbitantly high. These must be regulated. The government has been made aware of monopolistic practices in the sale of food and beverages in multiplexes and single-screen theatres across AP. If prices are reduced, audience numbers will increase, which in turn will boost tax revenues. The DCM also stated that providing drinking water and maintaining hygiene in theatres are basic responsibilities of theatre owners, and that local municipal bodies should ensure these standards are upheld,” the office added.
The Minister of Cinematography explained the progress of the inquiry initiated on the bandh matter (the now-shelved decision to shut down theatres from June 1). A producer’s public statement to the media alleging that a Jana Sena leader was behind the bandh was also discussed. With industry sources suggesting that a film producer and a political leader who owns cinema theatres may be involved in orchestrating the bandh, Pawan Kalyan directed the Minister to investigate that angle as well.
Pawan Kalyan’s Hari Hara Veera Mallu hits the cinemas on June 12.
