The makers of Patriot have dropped a teaser that has left the Malayalam film industry buzzing. Short, sharp and packed with intrigue, the clip doesn’t reveal too much but makes one thing impossible to ignore: this is Mammootty and Mohanlal like we’ve never seen them before.

The teaser builds suspense without a single spoken line. We get fleeting shots of dark corridors, surveillance monitors, and maps lit by cryptic codes, stitched together with tense background music. Then comes the payoff, the reveal of two names that have defined Malayalam cinema for decades. That’s all it takes for fans to erupt online, analysing every second for hidden meanings, character cues, and storyline hints.

Big-Screen Reunion With Global Scope

Directed by Mahesh Narayanan, Patriot brings together two megastars along with a stellar ensemble cast: Fahadh Faasil, Nayanthara, Kunchacko Boban, Revathy, Darshana Rajendran and Zarin Shihab. Cinematography is helmed by Manush Nandan, whose visuals give the teaser its gritty texture. The film is produced by Anto Joseph with C.R. Salim and Subhash Manuel as co-producers.

This is no small-scale project. Filming has already spanned Sri Lanka, with schedules also planned in Azerbaijan, the UK, India and the Middle East. Over 60% of the shoot is reportedly done, and Mohanlal recently wrapped an Ernakulam schedule. Mammootty, recovering from a brief health setback, is expected to return to dubbing duties soon. The release window is being targeted for late 2025 or early 2026.

Reports suggest the plot revolves around a retired Judge Advocate General officer accused of espionage, setting off a high-voltage chase to clear his name while navigating national security twists. The teaser doesn’t give away whether Mammootty and Mohanlal will be allies or opponents, but it hints at layered performances against a backdrop of betrayal, power games and political stakes.
