Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday claimed that Pakistan was expanding its military infrastructure along the Sir Creek, an estuary that separates Gujarat’s Kutch from the Sindh province of Pakistan. He also warned Islamabad against any “misadventures” in the area.
The 96-km estuary is the site of a territorial dispute between India and Pakistan. While New Delhi holds that the boundary between the two countries lies in the middle of the creek, Islamabad claims that the boundary lies on the eastern bank.
Speaking at an event in Gujarat’s Bhuj on the occasion of Hindu festival Dussehra, Singh accused Pakistan of harbouring “ill intentions” about the creek, even as India has tried to resolve the matter through dialogue several times. “The way Pakistan has expanded its military infrastructure in the areas adjoining Sir Creek exposes its intentions,” he said.
Singh said that a dispute surrounding the area was being stirred up even 78 years after Independence.

The minister said that the Indian Army and the Border Security Force are vigilantly guarding the border. “If any attempt is made from Pakistan’s side at a misadventure in the Sir Creek area, it will receive such a robust reply that both history and geography will be altered,” he added.
“In the 1965 war, the Indian Army had demonstrated that it was capable of reaching Lahore,” Singh further said. “Today, in 2025, Pakistan must remember that one route to Karachi passes through the creek.”
‘Pakistani air defence system exposed’
Singh asserted that India’s military operation against terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack “completely exposed” the neighbouring country’s air defence systems.
Operation Sindoor sent a message to the world that India’s armed forces can “inflict heavy losses on Pakistan wherever and however they wish”, said the defence minister.
Singh claimed that India “exercised restraint” despite its capabilities, as its military action was against terrorism. He said that even though Indian forces achieved all of Operation Sindoor’s military objectives, the fight against terrorism continues.
In the aftermath of the conflict, the Pakistani military claimed that 11 of its personnel and 40 civilians were killed in Indian strikes. At least 22 Indian civilians and eight Indian military security personnel were killed in Pakistani shelling.
