One UI 8 could bring call captions feature to Samsung phone app

Samsung is gearing up for the rollout of the Android 16-based One UI 8. Earlier today, the company dropped One UI 8 Beta 2 for the Galaxy S25 series. The update brings a bunch of bug fixes and feature refinements. Speaking of features, a new leak has revealed another One UI 8 feature called Call Captions.

One UI 8’s Call Caption feature revealed in the latest leak

The leak comes via Indian tipster Tarun Vats on X. In his post, Vats noted that the One UI 8 ZYF5 build adds a new feature called Call Captions. Interestingly, the build that included the feature is different from what Beta carries today. To make it clear, the One UI 8 Beta 2 carries the build number ZYF3. Considering Vats’ words, it’s highly likely that the build ZYF5 will come along with the next Beta. Again, there’s no confirmation whatsoever.

So, what’s the Call Captions feature in One UI 8 all about? As the name suggests, the Call Captions feature converts your speech to text in real time. Apparently, the feature isn’t stable at the moment, but we hope to see a refined version of it in the stable release. You can check the screenshots of the feature below.

As seen in the screenshot below, the One UI 8 Call Captions feature description reads, “Show what each person says on the screen during calls. Captions can be useful when hearing is difficult. If needed, inform the other person that the call is being captioned.

From the description, you can tell that Samsung is dedicating the feature to those with hearing problems. Practically, the transcribed text can be read by such people and understand what the other person is speaking.

The feature could be handy in a noisy environment

All that said, Samsung is adding yet another promising feature to the Phone app that can add value to the lives of users. In this case, One UI 8’s Call Captions feature can add value to the lives of those with hearing impairments. Another use case of this feature could be in a noisy environment, where you can’t listen to someone talking over a call.
