Milap Zaveri tries to revive his flagging career by glorifying stalkers in Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat. No means no but translates as yes for a thuggish politician played by Harshvardhan Rane of Sanam Teri Kasam fame.

Vikramaditya (Rane) is Maharashtra’s unelected chief minister, so powerful that the chief minister actually vacates his room when Vikramaditya walks in. When Vikramaditya – “call me Aditya” – sees the Bollywood superstar Adaa (Sonam Bajwa), he falls for her instantly.

She isn’t interested and she tells him so, repeatedly. He not only follows her everywhere but also announces that they are to be married and even shortlists wedding card designs and venues.

But Vikramaditya isn’t a certified creep, no siree. He is an intense, pure-hearted and youngish man who loves, not lusts. He never once touches Adaa even while hovering dangerously close around her.

Indeed, whenever anyone else tries to harm Adaa, Vikramaditya turns up to give the protection she didn’t ask for. It’s only a matter of time before Adaa comes across as a first-class bitch, unreasonable in her rejection and adamantine-hearted in her effect on her thick-skinned pursuer.

The 140-minute film, written by Zaveri and Mushtaq Shiekh, has scenes in excruciating slow motion and songs with the usual doom-and-gloom lyrics. The general feeling is of being trapped in a small elevator during a lengthy power cut.

Any expression of epic passion is purely verbal, since Rane wears a single stricken expression throughout. Bajwa fares no better. Shaad Randhawa, as Vikramaditya’s loyal lackey, has more emotiveness than both the leads.
