‘No shame, just TRPs’: Harsh Goenka criticises media coverage after CBI gives clean chit to Rhea Chakraborty in Sushant case | Trending News

On March 22, 2025, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a closure report nearly five years after actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. The report concluded that his death was a “suicide” and exonerated his then-girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty, and her family from all accusations. Soon after the development, several prominent figures criticised the media coverage against Chakraborty in 2020, demanding an apology.

Industrialist Harsh Goenka slammed the Indian TV media in his new post on X. “Nice job, Indian TV media. You hounded Rhea Chakraborty like a witch in a medieval trial—no evidence, no shame, just TRPs. Who needs facts when you have flashing graphics and angry panels? For me, journalism died that day,” he wrote.

On August 6, 2020, the CBI filed an FIR naming Rhea Chakraborty, her parents, brother, and two others, accusing them of charges such as abetment of suicide, cheating, wrongful restraint, theft, criminal breach of trust, and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code. This FIR was based on a complaint filed by Rajput’s father with the Patna police, alleging that these individuals were responsible for pushing Rajput to take his own life.

Following Rajput’s death in 2020, the Mumbai police had initially registered an Accidental Death Report. A month later, Rajput’s father K K Singh filed an FIR with the Patna police against Chakraborty and others. The actor then moved the Supreme Court with a petition to transfer the case to Mumbai. Meanwhile, the Bihar government had transferred the investigation to the CBI.
