‘No jeans, T-shirt…in office:’ New Ludhiana Commissioner of Police’s diktat | Chandigarh News

Days after assuming office, Ludhiana Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma issued a written order enforcing a formal dress code for both policemen and office staff on duty.

The CP’s order reads: “It has been noticed that police officials posted in the office are not properly dressed when they wear civil clothes, but they are wearing jeans, T-shirts, sports shoes, etc. Police are a disciplined force, and all employees (males and females both) are directed to wear formal shirt/trousers and salwar/kameez with dupatta.”

Sharma said that he issued the order after noticing several employees in the office were wearing clothes such as torn jeans, etc. “Being a disciplined force, we have to maintain decorum while dealing with the public, and the force should look professional. The order is for both uniformed and non-uniformed staff. When on duty, if cops are not wearing their police uniform, they have to wear formal. They cannot come to the office wearing jeans and a T-shirt. They can wear formal, including shirts and trousers,” he said.

Sharma said it was not mandatory for women employees to wear a salwar and kameez with a dupatta. “They can also wear shirts and trousers,” he added.
