Here’s a sentence we don’t hear often: Apple is shaking things up. It seems that the year 2025 is going to bring some major changes to Apple’s identity, based on a new report. One of the major changes coming is to the company’s naming scheme for its operating systems. As such, there will be no iOS 19, so get ready for iOS 26!
We expect to hear news about this in just a few months. Soon, Apple will hold its WWDC conference, so we expect to see all sorts of amazing announcements. WWDC will be going down on June 9th, so mark your calendars. Based on the news so far, it seems like this will be a pretty big event.
There will be no iOS 19, get ready for iOS 26
No, Apple doesn’t think that it’s the year 2032. The company is looking to completely change its approach to its Collective operating systems. Right now, it owns iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, VisionOS, and WatchOS. They have different version numbers for the most part, and that can make it a bit difficult to know which one is the most recent. So, if you are an outsider, things can be a bit confusing.
However, according to a new report, that will change soon. Apple May plan to start naming its operating systems after the year rather than its current naming scheme. Not only that, but all of its operating systems will share the same number. So, the company will update its devices to iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, tvOS 26, WatchOS 26, and VisionOS 26.
This move helps create a more seamless experience across Apple’s devices. One of Apple’s most powerful assets is its integrated ecosystem of hardware and software. So, further unifying them is a smart move.
We have to admit that there will be a bit of adjustment for the new naming scheme. Since each operating system will exist into the next year, it might be a bit confusing for some people. iOS 26 and the adjacent operating systems will not launch in 2026. They will launch in 2025 and carry over into 2026. So, each operating system will be named after the upcoming year rather than the current year. Once people get that down, it’ll be smooth sailing from there.
