No dialogue and little reason to

Ufff this movie, whose lack of dialogue is its only distinguishing element. G Ashok’s Ufff Yeh Siyapaa has little reason to exist beyond its gimmick.

The 116-minute movie is a hopeful comedy of errors revolving around a misdirected parcel, a pair of lookalikes and a couple of dead bodies. Kesari Lal (Sohum Shah) is the unintended recipient of a package of drugs. Too busy leering at his neighbour Kamini (Nora Fatehi), which wrecks his marriage with Pushpa (Nushrratt Bharuccha), Kesari fails to open said parcel.

It might have saved everybody the fuss. Anyway, Kesari gets a visit from Ravanya (Nushrratt Bharuccha again), who is a literal dead ringer for his wife. Kesari must figure out what to do with the recently deceased Ravanya, handle Pushpa’s tears, as well as deal with police inspector Hasmukh (Omkar Kapoor) while trying not to get too excited by Kamini.

The borderline sex comedy sees the cast, which includes Sharib Hashmi as Ravanya’s partner, in pantomime mode. The absence of dialogue is compensated for by AR Rahman’s lively soundtrack. Although the actors don’t speak, the film is loud enough – the comedy, that is.

Slapstick and packed with visual gags, Ufff Yeh Siyapaa has very few effectively chuckle-worthy moments. There’s little fun in watching a lecherous, physically unfit Kesari frequently baring his tummy or tie himself up into knots while dealing with the Ravanya problem. Events pick up in the last hour, in which the entire cast assembles at a single location and gets in each other’s way.

It’s futile to nurse memories of Singeetam Srinavasa Rao’s Pushpaka Vimana (1987), the brilliant dialogue-less film that had superb actors and memorable comic set pieces. In Ufff Yeh Siyapaa, only Nushrratt Bharuccha stands out as the weepy Kamini and the crafty Ravanya.

Ufff Yeh Siyapaa (2025).
