Nissan Records Annual Sales at Over 99,000 Units, Highest Since FY17-18

Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd. reported consolidated sales of over 99,000 units, the highest single-year performance since FY 2017-18. This figure reflects a 35% year-on-year growth, attributed to strong domestic and export sales of the New Nissan Magnite B-SUV. Domestic sales reached over 28,000 units, while exports hit a record 71,000+ units, expanding from 20 to more than 65 international markets.

The New Nissan Magnite, launched in October 2024, contributed significantly to this growth, the company said. Manufactured at Nissan’s Chennai plant, the vehicle features over 20 segment-first features in India and is now fully E20 fuel compliant. By August 2024, cumulative sales of the Magnite surpassed 150,000 units, with the new model achieving over 10,000 bookings within three months of its launch. Export milestones included 50,000 units shipped to both right-hand-drive (RHD) and left-hand-drive (LHD) markets, with Saudi Arabia marking its LHD debut.

Nissan’s export operations grew under its ‘One Car, One World’ strategy, reinforcing India’s role as a key manufacturing and export hub for the company. Historical sales data shows a steady rise in exports, from 32,389 units in FY20 to 71,000+ units in FY24, while domestic wholesale figures fluctuated, recording 28,000 units in FY24 compared to 18,886 in FY20.

As part of its global turnaround plan, Nissan restructured its India operations, offloading its stake in the Chennai joint venture plant to an Alliance partner. The transaction, pending regulatory approval, is expected to conclude by mid-2025. Frank Torres, Divisional Vice President of AMIEO Region Business Transformation and President of Nissan India Operations, stated that the restructuring aims to make the company leaner and more agile while maintaining its commitment to the Indian market, customers, dealers, and employees.

Nissan also outlined future plans, including the introduction of two new models: a 7-seater B-MPV in FY25 and a 5-seater C-SUV in FY26. The company intends to continue expanding its dealership network to improve customer accessibility and service. Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director of Nissan Motor India, noted that despite challenges in the auto industry, the New Magnite remains a strong performer in the B-SUV segment.

Additionally, Nissan announced a price increase of up to 3% across all trims of the New Nissan Magnite, effective April 1, 2025, to offset rising input costs and operational expenses.
