Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders may go live later than next week

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders may go live later than next week

Summary: A new report suggests that Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders won’t actually be going live on April 2. According to information from a big US retailer, the pre-orders will go live about a week later. Nintendo is set to fully reveal the Nintendo Switch 2 on April 2. It could announce the pre-orders and launch date at that time.

Earlier this week, the live date for Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders was reportedly leaked by accident by Best Buy Canada. The retailer put up a blog post that stated the pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 would be live on April 2. This just happens to be the exact same day as the Nintendo Direct livestream that Nintendo is holding to fully reveal the console and its features. It’s not unheard of for pre-orders to go live for a product on the same day they’re announced.

Phone manufacturers do it all the time. That being said, there’s no guarantee that this is Nintendo’s plan. Following what seems to have been an error, Best Buy Canada quickly pulled its post that mentioned the pre-order date. Now, a new rumor is suggesting that the pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will be live later than next week. Adding to the confusion on when you can pay for Nintendo’s next console.

The Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders will potentially go live on April 9

Although it was initially thought that April 2 was going to be the day for pre-orders, it now seems like that might not be the case. Insider Gaming states that it has seen internal documents from a large US retailer mentioning a later date. That date, specifically, is April 9. This is one week after Nintendo will hold its event to show off more of the console.

It’s worth noting that Nintendo officially unveiled the original Switch on October 20 of 2016. It then held a livestream to reveal technical details of the console on January 13, 2017. Pre-orders for the original Nintendo Switch went live right after that event, and then the console launched in March of that year.

This is to say that it’s entirely possible Nintendo could do the same thing here. However, Insider Gaming’s information is usually rock solid. And there’s no reason why Nintendo couldn’t choose to push pre-orders out a week.

Nintendo plans to launch the console in June

In addition to the pre-order date, the internal documents that were seen also reportedly mention the launch date. The documents state that the Nintendo Switch 2 will launch in June. This lines up with most of the rumors that have been saying this is the month the console will officially go on sale. So this isn’t hard to believe.

Additionally, Insider Gaming notes that the retailer who provided the documents anticipates selling out of the console on the first day of the pre-orders. This will reportedly be due to limited stock. This kind of thing is par for the course with new consoles these days. So if you’re planning to pre-order day one, be ready to check out immediately. As for the price, recent rumors have suggested $399.99.
