NDA ally says ‘feeling deceived’ by Bihar BJP, announces candidates for Assembly polls

NDA ally says ‘feeling deceived by Bihar BJP announces candidates

The Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, an ally of the National Democratic Alliance in Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday released a list of 47 candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in Bihar.

Party national general secretary Arvind Rajbhar also told reporters that the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party could not “get along” with the NDA in Bihar due to the unresponsive behaviour of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s state unit, reported PTI.

He accused the state unit of “misleading the central leadership” of the party, adding that the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party was “feeling deceived”.

This came two days after Rajbhar had announced that his party would independently contest 153 out of 243 Assembly seats in Bihar, reported PTI.

He had claimed on Monday that the Bihar unit of the BJP provided the central leadership with a “negative report” about the strength of the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party. This had resulted in the NDA denying them any seats, according to Rajbhar.

On Sunday, the NDA announced its seat-sharing formula for the polls, allotting the BJP and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United) 101 seats each.

The Chirag Paswan-led Lok Janshakti Party has been allotted 29 seats, while the Rashtriya Lok Morcha and Hindustani Awam Morcha will contest on six seats each.

The Assembly polls are due to be held in two phases on November 6 and November 11, while the votes will be counted on November 14.

The Opposition Mahagathbandhan alliance is yet to announce its seat-sharing deal.

The alliance comprises the Rashtriya Janata Dal, the Congress, Pashupati Kumar Paras’ Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party and three Left parties – Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist), Communist Party of India and Communist Party of India (Marxist).

On Wednesday, Rajbhar said that his party would not ally with any bloc other than the NDA, reported PTI.

He had said on Wednesday that the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party will remain aligned with the NDA in Uttar Pradesh.

The party had joined the NDA in Uttar Pradesh in July 2023.

The Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party’s support base mostly comprises backward castes, which account for over 20% of the population in eastern Uttar Pradesh. The Rajbhar community forms 3% of the state population and has a presence in nearly 125 Assembly seats.
