Mumbai: Spa owner held after sex racket busted in Oshiwara

The Amboli police have arrested a 51-year-old man for allegedly running a prostitution racket at Ramsha Spa in Oshiwara over the past year. A decoy customer was sent, following which the police raided the premises and rescued three women on Thursday at around 8 pm.

The spa owner has been identified as Shoma Mukherjee, 51, who was operating Ramsha Spa at Crystal Plaza near the Metro station in Oshiwara. During the raid, the police also seized around 20 packets of condoms from the spa.

According to officials, Mukherjee had rented the property and had been operating the spa for the past year.

A police officer said, “Inspector Vasant Devkate of Amboli police station received a tip-off about a prostitution racket being run by the spa owner in Oshiwara.”
Acting on the information, a team was formed under the guidance of Senior Inspector Pramod Kokate. 

The team included Police Inspector Vasant Devkate, Woman Assistant Police Inspector  Poonam Pawar, API Prashant Chaudhary, Woman Constable Gulab Palande, and Constable Pravin Patil.

The decoy customer was sent to the spa, where the owner allegedly offered sexual services and accepted Rs 5000 as payment.

The raid was conducted by the police around 8 pm on Thursday, during which three women — aged 24, 25, and 31 — were rescued. The women are said to be residents of West Bengal and Karnataka.

Speaking to mid-day, PI Vasant Devkate said, “On Thursday we raided the spa and arrested the owner for running a prostitution racket. We also seized 20 condom packets. Three women were rescued and an FIR has been registered. Further investigation is underway.”
