Acting on a tip-off, the Malwani Police on June 9 arrested a 49-year-old man for allegedly smuggling ganja (cannabis) from Odisha with the intent to sell it in Mumbai.
According to police sources, PSI Dr. Deepak Hinde received confidential information that an individual was expected to arrive in Malwani with a narcotics consignment. He immediately alerted ACP Neeta Padvi and Senior PI Shailendra Nagarkar. A trap was then laid near Kamal Talao on Marve Road in Malwani, Malad (West).
During the operation, the suspect was intercepted and searched, leading to the recovery of 4.466 kilograms of ganja — a narcotic substance — worth approximately Rs 44,660. A panchnama was conducted at the spot.
The accused has been identified as Bhimsen Anand Biswal (49), a resident of Jagannath Mandir Galli, Sasan Ambagaon, Hinjilicut Taluka, Ganjam District, Odisha.
A case has been registered under sections 8(c) read with 20(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The accused has been taken into custody.
