A 22-year-old dance instructor has been arrested by the Aarey Police for allegedly raping a 32-year-old professional dancer. According to police, the victim, a resident of Andheri, works as a background dancer in films and stage shows. The accused, a Malad resident who is also an event organiser, first met the victim in January this year during an event in Goa.
They met again in March, through a mutual contact, when the victim was out of work and searching for opportunities. The duo exchanged messages and met again after a few days. Following their meeting, they rented a bungalow in Royal Palms, Aarey Colony, for dance practice.
In her complaint, the victim told police that one day while they were practising, the accused offered her beer, and both got inebriated. After this, they practised water contact dance in the swimming pool. The complaint further states that since it was late at night, they decided to stay at the bungalow in Aarey, and that is when the accused took advantage of the situation and raped her twice.
Traumatised by the incident, the woman delayed filing a complaint, and she approached the police six months later. A police officer said that last month, the survivor came to the police station and lodged a complaint. After recording her statement, an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the BNS, and the accused was arrested.
He is currently in police custody, and further investigation into the matter has been launched, said the officer. The case is being investigated by PSI Sampat Ghughe under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Patil.
