Mujjamal Ibrahim says, `Deepika Padukone proposed to me first`, and `I left her`

Model and actor  Muzammil Ibrahim recently opened up about dating leading actress Deepika Padukone during their early modelling days. For the unversed, Deepika moved to Mumbai in the early 2000s and started modelling before stepping foot in the acting world. Around the same time, Muzammil was also establishing himself as a model, having appeared in a few music videos back then. During a recent interview, the Dhokha actor claimed to be in a relationship with Deepika for two years at the start of her career. Muzammil recalled not having money during their early days and hence would go on dates in a rickshaw. He also revealed that two years later, he broke up with her.

Muzammil Ibrahim recalls dating days with Deepika Padukone

In a recent interview with Siddharth Kanan, Muzammil recalled, “We were very good friends, and we still are. She is a very nice girl. We dated during our modelling days. We did a show for Tommy Hilfiger together. And she had seen me in Gladrags, Pardesiya, and all of that, and liked me a lot. That is how we met.”

Recalling their dating memories from those days, the actor-model said, “We were kids then. We would go on dates in a rickshaw in the rains. That was very cute. I had more money than she because I had started earning better. Then I bought a car and she was very happy about that. These things are very memorable because I have not been on a date in a rickshaw since then, and we were so happy even though we had no money.”

Sharing one incident, he recalled that on one of Deepika`s birthdays, he made sure that the DJ played her favourite song on repeat. “Even with no money, the DJ would play the song that she liked because I was friends with the DJ. For an hour and a half, he just played that song because it was her birthday,” he shared.

Muzammil recalls breaking up with Deepika Padukone

Sharing how he broke up with her he recalled, “We dated for two years. I was the first guy she met in Bombay, and vice versa. It was my first actual relationship. Deepika proposed to me first. We broke up because I left her, but I don`t regret it. I never regret leaving anyone. Plus, I was a star at that time, but she was not. She was a model, but I had become an actor already.”

He said, “I was a star at that time, she was not. She is a superstar now. Everyone knows her; nobody knows me. I am a big fan. I love watching her movies. She is a beautiful woman. She is doing so great, but the fact is what it is,” he said. 

Muzammil also added that they were in touch until Deepika got married to Ranveer in 2018. He shared, “Before her wedding, we would talk sometimes, and she was always very sweet. We didn`t become friends immediately after our breakup, but eventually, we got in touch again. We would congratulate each other on our achievements, and always hyped each other up.”
