Motherson Plans -7 Million Additional Investment in REE Automotive

Samvardhana Motherson International Limited (SMIL) has announced that its indirect wholly owned subsidiary, Samvardhana Motherson Automotive Systems Group B.V. (SMRP B.V.), will invest between USD 5 to 7 million in REE Automotive Ltd.

According to the company’s regulatory filing, the investment is intended to maintain SMRP B.V.’s current ownership percentage in REE Automotive. The filing states that REE Automotive is raising additional capital to support the commercialization of its order book.

SMRP B.V. currently holds 18.6% of REE Automotive’s ordinary share capital (11% on a fully diluted basis) following a transaction completed in September 2024.

Samvardhana Motherson International Limited (SMIL), commonly known as Motherson, is an automotive component manufacturer headquartered in Noida, India. Founded in 1975, the company has grown from a small wire manufacturing unit to a global automotive supplier.

SMIL operates across approximately 40 countries, producing components including wiring harnesses, mirrors, door trims, lighting systems, and polymer parts for major automotive manufacturers worldwide.

While SMIL has shown revenue growth over the years, its performance follows cyclical trends in the global automotive industry. The company maintains R&D facilities focused on innovation and has stated commitments to sustainability initiatives.

REE Automotive is an Israel-based electric mobility company focused on developing modular platforms for electric vehicles. The company specialises in REEcorner technology, which integrates critical vehicle components such as steering, braking, suspension, and powertrain into the wheel arches.

This design approach aims to maximize interior space and enhance flexibility for various vehicle applications, including commercial delivery vans, autonomous shuttles, and last-mile transportation solutions.

The company’s REEboard platform serves as a scalable foundation for different vehicle configurations, allowing manufacturers to customize designs according to their operational needs.

By enabling a “by-wire” system for steering, braking, and drive functions, REE Automotive seeks to improve vehicle efficiency and maneuverability. The modular nature of its technology is intended to support different powertrains, including battery-electric and fuel-cell electric variants.
