Empuraan Box Office Collection Prediction Day 1: With just hours to go before the return of Mohanlal as Stephen Nedumpally alias Khureshi Ab’raam, anticipation for L2: Empuraan, actor Prithviraj Sukumaran’s third directorial venture, has reached a fever pitch. Despite facing stiff competition in two major markets — Tamil and Hindi — owing to the releases of Vikram’s Veera Dheera Sooran and Salman Khan’s Sikandar this weekend itself, Empuraan has already entered uncharted territory, shattering advance booking records and strongly indicating its dominance in the ultimate Eid 2025 box office showdown.
Now, on the eve of its global release on Thursday, Empuraan has made history by becoming the first Malayalam film to register a worldwide gross of Rs 50 crore on its opening day, as announced by the makers. This milestone is even more significant considering the previous record was held by acclaimed filmmaker Priyadarshan’s Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham (2021), also starring Mohanlal, which grossed just over Rs 20 crore on its first day. If the latest report is true, Rs 50 crore won’t be the final figure for Empuraan and the movie’s actual first-day collection would only be more than this, thus setting a new standard for Malayalam cinema.

Having sold over 1 million tickets in advance on BookMyShow — making it the first-ever Malayalam film to achieve this feat — the movie is also performing exceptionally well in overseas markets, particularly in the Gulf countries and the US. The next big question is whether the Mohanlal-starrer can dethrone director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay-starrer Leo by setting a new record for the highest opening-day collection in Kerala. Leo set the benchmark at Rs 12 crore in 2023 and all eyes are now on Empuraan to see if it can surpass this figure.
Penned by Murali Gopy, Empuraan is jointly bankrolled by Antony Perumbavoor and Gokulam Gopalan under the banners of Aashirvad Cinemas Pvt Ltd and Sree Gokulam Movies, respectively. Starring Mohanlal, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Abhimanyu Singh, Tovino Thomas, Andrea Tivadar, Jerome Flynn and Indrajith Sukumaran in key roles, Empuraan hits the screens on March 27. It is the second installment in a planned trilogy that commenced with Prithviraj’s directorial debut Lucifer (2019).
