The Mohali Municipal Corporation is set to present a proposal in its upcoming General House Meeting on March 27 to construct and upgrade sheds at RMCs (refuse management centres) for better waste disposal. The project is expected to cost approximately Rs 2.25 crore.
Notably, the municipal corporation (MC) has already set up machinery and sheds at the Jagatpura RMC, which has a processing capacity of 150 tonnes of waste. A transformer has also been installed, and the site is now awaiting an electricity connection. Once operational, this facility is expected to significantly improve waste management in Mohali.
In addition, RMCs in Shahi Majra and Phase 3A have been equipped with waste processing machinery to enhance garbage disposal efficiency. Plans are also underway to establish more RMCs in various sectors of the city.
With Mohali’s rapid urban expansion, effective waste management has become a priority. The upcoming proposal aims to modernise waste disposal infrastructure, ensuring a cleaner and more sustainable city. If approved, this initiative will mark a significant step toward improving Mohali’s sanitation and environmental standards.
