Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that even if he forgives the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal for “insulting his mother”, the people of India have never tolerated such abuse.
These were the prime minister’s first comments on an incident from August 27, when a man was heard purportedly using a Hindi expletive against Modi, from a dais set up for the Opposition’s “Voter Adhikar Yatra” in Bihar’s Darbhanga town.
Before the incident, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav had left the venue, PTI reported.
On Tuesday, Modi urged the people of Bihar “to ensure accountability for this insult”, saying that disrespect to mothers and attacks on their dignity would never be tolerated. He said that the use of the expletive at the rally was not just an insult to his mother, but an affront to all women in the country.
Attacking the Opposition further, Modi alleged that “abusing Modi’s mother” was not a big deal for those who insult Mother India.

He added that “people who hurl abuses at mothers have the mindset that women are weak” and said that whenever such people come to power, women have suffered the most, ANI reported.
The prime minister was speaking virtually from Delhi while inaugurating a new cooperative initiative to promote entrepreneurship skills among women associated with self-help groups in Bihar, PTI reported.
The Assembly elections in Bihar are scheduled for October-November.
On Friday, the Bihar Police arrested a man identified as Mohammad Rizvi in connection with the case about the abusive remarks. The case was registered on a complaint by Bharatiya Janata Party’s Darbhanga district president Aditya Narayan Choudhary, the news agency reported.
