Microsoft may soon replace Windows Blue Screen of Death: Here’s what’s changing | Technology News

Even if you haven’t used Windows, chances are you have heard about the infamous Blue Screen of Death error message. The error popping up isn’t something anyone would want on their PC, but you are likely to run into it more than you would like.

However, in a blog post, Microsoft has announced  that will be updating the iconic Windows Blue Screen of Death with a new look. The tech giant said that it is “previewing a new, more streamlined UI for unexpected restarts which better aligns with Windows 11 design principles.”

Available to Windows Insiders on Windows 11 24H2 Beta, Dev and Canary channels, the iconic Blue Screen of Death with a frowning emoji is now gone and replaced by a minimalist green coloured screen with the text “Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart.” Also, there is no QR code now and the error code appears at the bottom of the screen.

Those on the latest Windows Insider builds are currently seeing a green screen, but Microsoft may change the colour to blue or black before it is available to everyone. For those wondering, the infamous Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) has undergone cosmetic and other changes since its introduction with Windows 1.0, but this is the first time in the last few years that a major overhaul will be coming to the Windows error page.
