Meghalaya girls’ rendition of ‘Maa Tujhe Salaam’ at AFC Asian Cup wins hearts: ‘Goosebumps’ | Trending News

A group of young girls from Meghalaya has impressed the Internet with their powerful rendition of A R Rahman’s Maa Tujhe Salaam. They gave a soulful performance during the AFC Asian Cup Qualifier match between India and Bangladesh at the Shillong JN Stadium.

Hailing from the KHMIH Creative Society in Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya, the music group dressed in traditional attire, Jainsen. The video of their performance began circulating across all social media platforms, earning plaudits from several prominent figures, including Nagaland’s Tourism and Higher Education Minister, Temjen Imna Along, actor Dia Mirza, and more.

Sharing the clip on X, Along wrote, “Waaoow.”

The video quickly garnered praise, amassing over five lakh views. “Goosebumps! Proud of you the beautiful talented girls from Meghalaya,” a user wrote. “The Northeast is a gold mine of talent, culture, and creativity. Growing up in Arunachal Pradesh, I’ve experienced it firsthand,” another user commented.

“Absolute WOW! Goosebumps. So talented,” a third user said.

The KHMIH Creative Society shared that the girls performed not just Maa Tujhe Salaam, but also “Ri Lum” (Thwei ki Dohnud). However, it was their rendition of Rahman’s song that captured the most attention and quickly became the highlight of the performance.
