Maruti Suzuki India Limited has expanded its corporate social responsibility (CSR) footprint to eight villages surrounding its Kharkhoda facility in Haryana, the company announced on Tuesday. The initiatives target the villages of Kundal, Rampur, Saidpur, Pipli, Gopalpur, Sohati, Rohna and Thana Kalan.
In partnership with the Department of Education, Sonipat, the company has established two libraries at Government Senior Secondary Schools in Rohna and Thana Kalan villages. The libraries are equipped with computers, over 2,100 textbooks, reading materials and dedicated study spaces, benefiting approximately 600 students in the region.
A ceremonial event held on May 20 saw Dr. Manoj Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Sonipat, and Mr. Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer of Maruti Suzuki, inaugurate the library at the Government Girls Senior Secondary School in Rohna village.
“Community welfare remains integral to our journey in Kharkhoda and evolves alongside our new facility,” said Mr. Bharti during the event. He emphasized the company’s aim to empower local communities and improve living standards through focused initiatives.
Other completed projects in the region include construction of new classrooms at schools in Kundal and Rampur villages, installation of solar energy units at schools in Kundal and Saidpur, and construction of paver block roads in multiple villages to improve connectivity, especially during monsoons.
These development efforts have benefited more than 500 students across several adjoining villages and align with Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturer, has a long-standing presence in Haryana with facilities in Gurugram, Manesar and Rohtak. The Kharkhoda plant represents the company’s newest greenfield facility in the state, continuing its industrial expansion while maintaining focus on community development.
The company’s approach involves consultation with local community leaders to identify and implement targeted development projects that address specific needs of the region’s residents, according to the population data from the 2011 census of India.
