Maranamass trailer: ‘Naughty’ Basil Joseph fights a serial killer in this action-comedy backed by Tovino Thomas | Malayalam News

Maranamass trailer: “Subjects in this trailer are closer than they appear,” warns the trailer for the upcoming ‘mass’ action-comedy Maranamass, as we hear a person recollect a scene from ‘Tom and Jerry’, where the cat whacks the rat with a hammer, and the story is narrated with an extra emphasis on the whacking part. When a news reporter announces that Kerala is witnessing a new wave of serial killings — similar to those committed by Ripper Chandran — we see characters played by Rajesh Madhavan, Siju Sunny and Anishma Anilkumar shutting the windows of a bus, as if they have something to hide.

As Ajay Ramachandran DySP (Babu Antony) takes over the investigation of the serial killings, the trailer introduces us to the ‘protagonist’ played by “angry young star” Basil Joseph. But wait, he’s not your typical hero. “He once fished in the temple pond with halal chicken pieces to spark religious tensions,” we hear. We also get to know that he once put up an OLX ad to sell the local police station.

As the trailer progresses, it becomes clear that he isn’t the only unhinged character around and the others are even worse. Amid their day-to-day carnival of chaos, a serial killer is on the loose in the area now, with a Rs 10 lakh bounty on his head. Will the “naughty” superstar Basil Joseph be able to put an end to all of this? That forms the crux of the highly anticipated movie.

Helmed by Sivaprasad, Maranamass also features Puliyanam Poulose and Suresh Krishna in key roles. Co-produced by renowned Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas, the film’s story is written by Siju Sunny, with its screenplay and dialogues crafted jointly by Siju and director Sivaprasad. The movie boasts cinematography by Neeraj Revi, editing by Chaman Chakko, music by JK and lyrics by Vinayak Sasikumar. Maranamass is set to hit the screens on April 10, coinciding with the Vishu season, in direct competition with Mammootty’s Bazooka and Naslen K Gafoor’s Alappuzha Gymkhana.
