
A police official on Monday said that a 19-year-old man from Varanasi has been arrested for allegedly attacking a teenage girl in western Mumbai after she ignored him, reported news agency PTI.
Accused Rahul Singh targeted the 17-year-old girl at Gosalia Road in Sanjay Nagar of Kandivali (West) on May 24 when she was walking with a friend, reported PTI.
Singh allegedly abused her, picked up a brick lying on the roadside and slammed it on her head. He also smashed her mobile phone, the official said.
The teen sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the civic-run Shatabdi Hospital. During the probe, police learnt that Singh, a resident of Varanasi, came to Mumbai as the girl was not taking his calls, the official said, adding that the two know each other very well, reported PTI.
The accused has been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. A probe is underway, the official said.
Woman kills husband with help of her paramour
In another case, a 36-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his wife and her paramour in central Mumbai, police said on Monday, reported PTI.
Victim Ismail Ali Jamal Ali Shaikh was killed with a sharp weapon, resulting in deep injuries, in the Antop Hill area, an official said, reported PTI.
According to police, Shaikh`s wife, Sumaya (26), was in an extramarital relationship with a man named Jabbar Shaikh. As Ismail was seen as an obstacle to their relationship, the two allegedly conspired to kill him, reported PTI.
Both Sumaya and Jabbar Shaikh have been arrested, and a case of murder has been registered against them at Antop Hill police station, the official said, adding that further investigation is underway.
Man held for stabbing car occupant to death after argument on overtaking
Meanwhile, Mumbai police on Monday said it had solved the road rage incident in Vikhroli, in which one man was stabbed to death, with the arrest of a two-wheeler rider, reported PTI.
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon on the service road in Ghatkopar East.
Vikhroli-based car dealer Zeeshan Rafique Sheikh was stabbed to death after he had an argument with a two-wheeler rider on the issue of overtaking, the official said, reported PTI.
“A case of murder was registered at Pantnagar Police Station against the two-wheeler driver. Various teams were formed to solve the case. Suresh Jaiswal, a resident of Vikhroli, was nabbed by the Crime Branch within 24 hours of the incident with the help of technical analysis and human intelligence,” the official said, reported PTI.
Jaiswal has been handed over to Pantnagar police for further action, the official added.
