Mahesh Babu’s gut feeling explained

Mahesh Babu’s gut feeling explained

At least till SPYder, Mahesh Babu went by his gut feeling in picking his directors and projects. This was evident in many choices that he made.

Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu is an example. Director Srikanth Addala was just one-film old at that time. Mahesh grabbed the offer not because Dil Raju trusted the story but because he loved the way the director narrated the Godavari setting and his character’s dialect. He was convinced that it was not a story-based movie but a rooted one that would work because of its authenticity.

Not every time did the instincts pay off. Brahmostavam was a case in point. Producer Prasad V Potluri expressed some doubts during the making of the movie. “At that time, Mahesh told PVP that Addala’s movie might not make much sense during the making and that one would have to wait for the entire film to be completed. Mahesh is someone who simply trusts his directors. He looks at the way they narrate, their emphasis, etc,” screen-writer Kona Venkat said in a recent interview.

It is believed that things changed after SPYder tanked in 2017. Mahesh Babu chose that movie without listening to the entire story. After the bitter experience, Mahesh stopped making decisions on a whim.
