Four prisoners assaulted a policeman on the premises of a court in Maharashtra`s Thane district on Thursday, leaving him injured, an official said, reported news agency PTI.

The incident took place in Kalyan when eight persons were being escorted to the Aadharwadi jail after they were produced in a court.

According to the official, a scuffle broke out over seating space. Suddenly, four prison inmates turned violent and attacked policeman Kishore Petare, reported PTI.

A case has been registered against the four, identified as Akash Valmiki, Ganesh alias Shalu Marothia, Yoginder alias Bholu Dharamveer Marothia, and Vivek Shankar Yadav, he said, reported PTI.

Four months after constable was found dead, wife and son arrested

In another case, four months after a police constable was found dead in the city, investigators have arrested his wife and son for allegedly assaulting him which led to his death, reported PTI.

The accused were booked for `culpable homicide not amounting to murder,` a police official said on Thursday.

Constable Pravin Suryawanshi (52), attached to Shivaji Nagar police station and resident of Pratiksha Nagar, was found dead in nearby Wadala Truck Terminal area in May, reported PTI.

At first police suspected that it was an accidental death. But probe found that he used to have quarrels with wife Smita (42) and son Pratik (22), who allegedly assaulted him during one such fight and caused the death, the official said, reported PTI.

Both were produced before a court which sent them in police custody till September 27, he said.

Teenager hit by three unidentified persons at `garba` event in Goregaon

Meanhile, a 19-year-old man was attacked by three unidentified persons at a `garba` event in Goregaon East, a police official said on Thursday, reported PTI.

The incident took place at NESCO Compound on Wednesday night, the Vanrai police station official said, adding a video had gone viral on social media platforms, reported PTI.

“Jenil Barbaya was attacked by a group of participants. The assault was a fallout of an argument which started when one of the accused hit Barbaya with the dandiya stick while dancing. Jenil was taken to Tunga Hospital in Malad West. He was in the ICU initially but is now out of danger,” the official said, reported PTI.

The viral video showed Barbaya bleeding from the nose.

“The statement of the victim has been recorded. A case is being registered against three unidentified persons. Further probe is underway,” the official added.
