Summary: LG has launched its first commercial-grade robotic vacuum cleaner, developed in partnership with the Marriott Design Lab. Aimed at the hospitality industry, it is designed to effectively clean hotels and resorts.
LG’s line of robotic vacuum cleaners has been around for a while, but it failed to dethrone market leaders like iRobot and Roborock. Now the brand is trying its luck in the commercial market with its new LG robotic vacuum cleaner for hotels.
LG and Robotic Vacuum Cleaners? When Did That Happen?
LG’s vacuum cleaners have flown under the radar for the most part, overshadowed by the more affordable Roombas from iRobot. But the company has been developing automated robot vacuum cleaners since 2001 and has been steadily improving on its products.
LG has made some really expensive yet innovative robot vacuums that do a lot more than just clean the floor. And it keeps making advancements in cleaning technology as well, resulting in rather effective robot vacuums.
Yet, despite all these technological victories, it has failed to make a major dent in the robot cleaner market. LG’s robot vacuums are just too expensive for most home users. This is why the company is finally targeting the commercial segment instead.
But What is the Marriott Design Lab?
If the name Mariott brings to mind the famous hotel chain, you are on the right track. In 2022, Marriott International established a new R&D lab to accelerate the development of new technological products for its hotels.
The idea was to partner with the leading technology brands to create unique solutions for the hotel industry, tested on its own vast network. LG was one of the early partners announced from the very beginning.
In Mariott’s own words, the partnership with LG aims to develop solutions for dirty and repetitive tasks like cleaning. With this new LG robotic vacuum, the partnership is finally yielding results.
How is the Commercial Robot Vacuum Different?
The main difference between normal Roombas and LG’s robotic vacuum for hotels is power. As a commercial-grade cleaning robot, this new vacuum is designed to service entire hotel corridors and banquet spaces overnight.
Since it is meant to minimize disruption to hotel guests, the robot is equipped with powerful LiDAR and Vision Fusion SLAM sensors. It can accurately map any custom hotel environment and even generate statistical data on the various cleaning zones.
This is not just a concept – the company has already tested its new robot vacuum on Mariott’s hotels as a pilot project. This specialized hotel cleaning robot is now available for any client in the hospitality industry.
