Let Us Build Your AI Future

OpenAI has announced a new initiative called ‘OpenAI for Countries’. Through it, OpenAI wants to help interested governments build their AI infrastructure. The OpenAI for Countries initiative is part of the AI firm’s Stargate Project that it announced in January. While the Stargate Project primarily focuses on developing AI infrastructure in the US, the new initiative will help other nations expand their AI infrastructure.

OpenAI for Countries initiative wants to help governments spread “democratic AI”

OpenAI for Countries is a “new initiative to support countries around the world that want to build on democratic AI rails.” It emphasizes the development, application, and implementation of AI infrastructure that protects and integrates fundamental democratic values.

OpenAI wants to build systems for countries that give freedom for people to choose how they work with and direct AI. It also aims to prevent governments’ use of AI to amass control and a free market that provides free competition. “All these things contribute to a broad distribution of the benefits of AI, discourage the concentration of power, and help advance our mission,” the firm added.

OpenAI has a five-step plan to collaborate with countries

OpenAI has created a five-step program for governments as part of its new initiative. In the first step, it wants to partner with nations to help build in-country data center capacity. These centers will help the countries build new local industries, support the sovereignty of data, and make it easy to customize AI. Through the second step, the company wants to provide customized ChatGPT AI assistants to citizens.

The third step involves collaborating with governments on the future direction of OpenAI models. Additionally, the company will also raise and deploy a startup fund in partnership with the government. The initiative will seed a healthy AI ecosystem in the country. Finally, the firm said that collaborating countries would invest in expanding the global Stargate Project.

At first, OpenAI for Countries will take on 10 projects in the first phase and expand from there. The countries that are keen to collaborate with OpenAI for the new initiative can connect through its representatives in the US and executives in offices around the world.
