Kunal Kamra mocks Mumbai cops as they arrive at his Mahim home, where he hasn’t ‘lived for the last 10 years’: ‘A waste of your time and public resources’

After the police arrived at the doorstep of his Mahim home in Mumbai on Monday following his failure to appear before the Khar cops in connection with a case registered over his “gaddar (traitor)” remark against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, comedian Kunal Kamra took to social media to take a massive jibe at the officials for purportedly wasting time and public resources. Stating that he hadn’t lived at that address for at least 10 years, Kamra shared a picture of himself from the terrace of his current home in Tamil Nadu.

“Going to an address where I haven’t lived for the last 10 years is a waste of your time and public resources,” he wrote in a veiled attack on the police for visiting his previous Mahim home. Kamra was supposed to appear before Khar police on Monday, which was the second time he had been summoned. “A Khar police team went to his house in Mahim, where his family stays, to check whether he would appear in connection with the case or not. Since he did not, further course of action will be decided soon,” an official told news agency PTI.

After the Madras High Court granted interim anticipatory bail to the comedian until April 7 in connection with an FIR lodged in Mumbai, three more FIRs were registered against Kunal Kamra in Maharashtra over the same “gaddar” comment. The fresh cases were registered in different parts of the state and, on Friday, were transferred to the Khar police station for further probe. The first FIR against Kamra was filed based on a complaint lodged by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel.

The controversy erupted after Kamra’s latest stand-up comedy set titled Naya Bharat appeared on YouTube recently. After clips from the act went viral on social media, Shiv Sena workers vandalised the Habitat Studio at Hotel Unicontinental in Khar, where it was filmed. Following this, the police registered a suo motu case against the Sena workers and subsequently arrested 12 of them. They were later released on bail.
