Filmfare was the first to tell readers that Vijay Deverakonda’s recent release Kingdom is slated for an early release on OTT, under one month of its release. The streaming giant wanted to cash in on the festive fever and make the most of the viewership. Kingdom’s OTT partner Netflix has confirmed the same officially in a social media post. Those who missed out on the theatrical experience of Kingdom can now watch the action thriller out of the comfort of their homes from August 27.

Kingdom on OTT

Vijay Deverakonda’s film will stream in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam under the title Kingdom, while the Hindi version will be released as Samrajya. These days, many Telugu films are arriving on OTT soon! For movies that did not enjoy a good theatrical run at the box office, OTT partners wanted to have an early release before the buzz dies down completely. Kingdom hit theatres on July 31 and is facing a similar fate —arriving on OTT much sooner than expected — continuing the trend of early digital releases in Tollywood. The action thriller started off with a bang – opened to big numbers in the initial week of its release. But later, the film fizzled away due to weak writing, especially the second half. The story too seemed too heavy for an actor like Vijay Deverakonda. But producer Naga Vamsi has managed to get a good deal with the streaming giant for the digital rights.

Vijay Deverakonda disappointed

Vijay Deverakonda’s fans had pinned a lot of hopes on Kingdom. They believed that the film would mark Vijay’s return to success in Tollywood. But with the Gowtam Tinnanuri directorial failing to click at the box office, Vijay seems to be disappointed. The young actor has now turned his focus on his upcoming film directed by Rahul Sankrityan.
