The recently launched Kia Syros SUV has secured a 5-star safety rating in the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP), achieving high scores in both Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP).
According to the official test results, the Syros received 30.21 out of 32.00 points for AOP and 44.42 out of 49.00 points for COP. These ratings were based on performance in a series of crash tests, including the Offset Deformable Barrier (ODB) frontal impact at 63.95 km/h, the Mobile Deformable Barrier (MDB) side impact at 50.17 km/h, and a pole side impact test at 29.17 km/h.
The Syros is equipped with a comprehensive safety package that includes 20 standard active and passive safety features and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Kia India stated that the vehicle also incorporates over 16 autonomous safety technologies aimed at enhancing occupant protection across different driving conditions.
Gwanggu Lee, Managing Director and CEO of Kia India, said the BNCAP 5-star rating demonstrates the brand’s ongoing efforts to offer higher safety standards in the Indian automotive market. He added that making features such as ADAS Level 2 more accessible is part of Kia’s broader strategy to introduce globally recognised safety technologies to a wider customer base.
The Syros is part of Kia India’s evolving product lineup, which also includes models like the EV9 and Carnival Limousine. Six airbags are now offered as standard across all Kia models in India. Additional safety features such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), and Over-the-Air (OTA) software updates through connected car technology are also integrated to enhance overall user safety and convenience.
Kia India’s manufacturing facility in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, has been operational since August 2019 and has an annual capacity of 300,000 units. The brand has launched seven models in the Indian market to date and has dispatched nearly 1.6 million vehicles from the plant, including over 1.2 million domestic sales and approximately 3.67 lakh units exported. The company currently has more than 4.5 lakh connected vehicles on Indian roads and operates through a network of 725 touchpoints across 315 cities.
