Kareena Kapoor Khan has been a part of the film industry for over two decades and continues to be at the top of her game. The mother of two also maintains a disciplined lifestyle, following a clean diet and workout routine. At 44, her routine is also `monastic`, she says. In an interview, the actress opened up about her fitness routine that is well-suited to her needs. These include having dinner at 6:30 pm and going to bed by 9:30 pm.

Kareena credits COVID for shift in fitness pattern

“Dinner by 6 pm, lights out by 9:30 pm, morning workouts before the world wakes up,” says Kareena in conversation with The Nod magazine. So how does she maintain a social life with this schedule? “My friends know not to expect me at parties. And they respect that. They know I’ll be watching Schitt’s Creek on low volume!” Kareena added.

Kapoor credits this shift in her fitness pattern to the COVID-19 pandemic. She says that phase changed something in her. “If I don’t work out, I’m in a bad mood. Post-COVID, I realised how important fitness is—not for vanity, but for well-being. It’s my mood stabiliser, my anchor.” For her fitness needs, Kapoor swears by yoga, walking, and strength training.

Kareena`s trainer spills her fitness secrets

Kareena Kapoor`s trainer, Mahesh Ghanekar, reveals that the actress works out four times a week, focusing on weight training, functional movements, and heart-rate-focused circuit work. “Kareena has been working out with me for over two years, but for the last five months, we have built consistency. She has been doing strength training with me at least four times a week—two days on, one day off. It gives the body time to recover,” Ghanekar shared in an interview with Hindustan Times.

“Her weight has dropped from 67.5 kg to around 64 kg. We are targeting another 2–3 kg. Kareena has also reduced inches from her biceps and body in general. Weight training is working very well for her, and she can feel her strength growing,” says Ghanekar, who has also trained actors Soha Ali Khan and Bipasha Basu.

Further, breaking down Kareena`s fitness, he explained, “We push the heart rate to 135 and above, sometimes hitting 170 or 180, then focus on how quickly it recovers before the next set begins. The faster the recovery, the fitter you are. We aim to burn 400–500 calories per hour, without machines. I believe that your brain should be as challenged as your body. If you are doing well internally, you will end up looking good from the outside.”
