Fans of Dulquer Salmaan will have to wait a little longer to catch him in Kaantha. The film, which was initially marked for a September 12 theatrical debut, has officially been postponed. The decision, according to the makers, comes in light of the phenomenal response to Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra, which has been packing theatres since its release.
In a statement, the team thanked audiences for the overwhelming love showered on the teaser of Kaantha. They admitted the encouragement drives them to deliver a cinematic experience worth the wait. For now, however, they prefer to let Lokah continue its triumphant run at the box office before unveiling their next big story. A revised release date is expected to be announced soon.
Inside the World of Kaantha
Directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, Kaantha transports viewers to 1950s Madras. At its heart lies a turbulent relationship between a filmmaker and his lead actor, promising a narrative that blends personal conflict with period detail. The film is said to carry shades of both psychological drama and slow-burn suspense, setting it apart from standard commercial fare.

Cast and Crew
Alongside Dulquer, who also serves as co-producer with Rana Daggubati, the film stars Samuthirakani and Bhagyashri Borse in prominent roles. The project also brings together an impressive technical team: Jhanu Chanthar on music, Dani Sanchez-Lopez as cinematographer, and Llewellyn Anthony Gonsalvez in charge of editing. With such names on board, expectations are high for a film that balances aesthetic finesse with emotional heft.
What the Postponement Means
For audiences, the delay is a double-edged sword. While anticipation is bound to stretch further, it also signals the makers’ confidence in Kaantha as a premium product deserving its own spotlight. Strategically, postponing the release allows Dulquer’s production outfit to avoid competing with itself, ensuring that Lokah continues to thrive while keeping Kaantha fresh in the conversation.
