The Delhi High Court has stepped in to protect Jaya Bachchan’s identity, after she filed a plea saying her name and photographs were being used online without her permission. Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora passed the order on November 10 2025, giving her legal protection over her personality rights.

Jaya Bachchan told the court that several social media accounts, YouTube channels and websites were using her pictures and likeness to promote content and even sell products, without asking her. Her lawyers also pointed out that some videos floating around the internet had been created using artificial intelligence to make it look like she appeared or spoke in them, which she never did.
Justice Arora noted how serious these violations were and said that action would be taken against anyone found misusing her identity. However, the court made it clear that it would not stop a private seller on Amazon from selling posters of the 1973 film Abhimaan, featuring Jaya and Amitabh Bachchan, since those posters were part of the original movie merchandise and not an unauthorised use of her persona.
